Transformation Behavioral Health is an association of independent therapists and psychologists who offer high quality mental health treatment in two northern Illinois locations: Woodstock (McHenry county) and Poplar Grove (Boone county). We specialize in evidence based treatments, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and are members of Dialectical Behavior Therapy National Certification and Accreditation Association. All therapists are involved in our Comprehensive DBT program and adhere to the highest standards of DBT. Transformation Behavioral Health offers treatment programs for those struggling with anxiety, depression, losses, relationship challenges, disorders of emotion regulation and other concerns as outlined below.
Kathy Blackmer (Poplar Grove and Woodstock offices) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She has worked in Community Mental Health for over 35 years and has broad experience working with adults, teens and children with mental health concerns, at-risk youth, those with addictions, and those who experienced trauma. Kathy has years of experience in crisis intervention, both at the community level and at the national level. She has worked as a crisis volunteer at Ground Zero, Hurricane Katrina, and college campuses. Kathy is Intensively Trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by Behavioral Tech, the highest standard for DBT training. DBT is effective for working with persons who struggle with BPD and disorders of emotional regulation, self-harm or chronic suicidal thoughts. She has specialty training and experience in working with children and adults with attachment challenges, including working with children in foster care or adoptive homes. She also has specialty training in working with teens and adults with LGBT concerns. In addition to being a DBT therapist, Kathy also coordinates our addictions recovery programs. She is a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the Illinois Counseling Association.
Joanna de Leon (Poplar Grove and Woodstock offices) is a Masters level clinician. In addition to DBT, she specializes in helping families and partners of all types achieve less conflictual relationships. She has extensive experience working with at-risk youth and their families, children in foster care, and families in the adoption process. She specializes in working with children, facilitating groups for children and treatment for those learning to cope with changed life circumstances, including grief and loss issues. She facilitates the teen and adult DBT programs in Poplar Grove and co-facilitates our Addictions Recovery Program. In therapy, she provides a balance of warmth and realism. She is a member of the American Counseling Association.
Ashley Taylor (Woodstock and Poplar Grove offices) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a DBT therapist. She facilitates the adult and the teen DBT groups in Woodstock, and our anxiety management program and class. Ashley has talent and skill in connecting with teens and working with resistance and oppositionality. Ashley also specializes in group therapy and the use of art to facilitate healing and growth. She has a passion for working with children and adolescents, as well as adults going through difficult life transitions. She blends her artistic talents into a powerful therapy style. She is a member of the American Counseling Association.
Dr. Kelly Vinehout (Woodstock office) is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Nurse and adds a biological and psychoeducational component to treatment. She has over 20 years of experience in the development and management of treatment programs in diverse settings of inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health facilities. Dr. Vinehout has expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), in which she has been Advanced Intensively Trained by Behavioral Tech and Marsha Linehan and she is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification Certified Clinician. Dr. Vinehout specializes in treating those with chronic medical conditions, chronic pain, anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), adults who had parents with alcohol use (ACOA) or chronic illness, domestic violence, and veteran's concerns. She completes evaluations and other work for the Department of Defense. Dr. Vinehout is a professional member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Vinehout also provides services in American Sign Language for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and prefer treatment without the need for an interpreter.
Scott Zimber (Monday mornings in Woodstock office) is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. He is experienced in treatment for those with Borderline Personality Disorder for disorders of emotion regulation, relationship discord, anxiety, depression, personal trauma and loss, grief, and career transition. Scott enjoys working with couples and balances his use of DBT and Cognitive therapies with approaches that build on a person's spiritual foundations to assist in managing life's challenges and transitions.
